April 2005

Greetings from the Elders –

In recent months, the Elders have been involved in evaluating the health and direction of our church. We’ve received lots of helpful input from some of you regarding the current state of the church, areas that may be holding us back, and suggestions for improvement. As we have prayed and met together as Elders, we decided on the following 6 areas that we believe need to be addressed in order for us to move forward in a healthy and God-honoring way.

  1. Communication – We as Elders want to do a better job communicating with the EFCHB body regarding updates and issues we’re facing as a church. We also want to create an environment where “2-way” communication is easier.

  2. Marriage & Family Life at EFCHB – We recognize the need for a greater emphasis in this important ministry area. This is not only true for the immediate present, but is an important factor for the future growth and impact of our church as well.

  3. Sunday Morning Service – We are evaluating how well we are “connecting” with people in our Sunday service. We want our Sunday service to be inspiring, relevant and spiritually refreshing for people.

  4. “Eliminate & Concentrate” - The need to consider the principle to “eliminate &
concentrate” came as a result of the question: “Are we trying to do too many things
for a church our size?” We’re evaluating this possibility.

  5. Vision/Goals/Planning – We want to not only have a good Purpose Statement on paper, but one that is being implemented fruitfully and impacting lives.

  6. Follow-Up of Visitors/New Believers – We recognize a need for a more intentional, organized effort to reach out to these people.
Please keep us in prayer! While we are working hard on plans to address these issues, we recognize our need to be led by God’s Spirit. We realize that our plans should “not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God”.

Thank you for your commitment to EFCHB becoming everything God wants it to be, and for your willingness to participate with us to that end.

Blessings to you,

John Henderson
On behalf of the Elders of EFCHB
